Artist
Statement
In creating a painting, my
intent is to capture an evocative feeling and an essence of
the
landscape or
structure that I feel a connection to. The spaces and scenes that I
choose usually
have a basis in reality, but I often alter composition, color and
light to more accurately express my feelings about
how and what I see.I truly appreciate the process of
painting. I like the texture of the surfaces that I prepare,
the richness of the colors
that I choose, the softness of a brush, the smell of the
paint,medium and
solvent and the excitement of creating an image.
Biography
Tracy Helgeson was born in
Rochester, Minnesota. She attended the Minneapolis
College of Art
and Design, majoring in Graphic Design and then attended the
Philadelphia
College of Art (now the University of
the Arts) where she studied illustration.
Philadelphia was a great influence on
Tracy and it was there that her work began to take
on a unique style as she
learned the under painting skills and glazing techniques
that
distinguish
her current work.
In 2003, Tracy relocated to upstate
New York and greatly inspired by the natural beauty
surrounding the farmhouse
that she lives and works in, Tracy began painting landscapes
and other farm related
imagery such as barns and fields. While she continues to
focus
on the
landscape, she is also pursuing several new directions, including
paintings of
monochromatic (black) structures and a
series of portraits called 'People You Know'.
